A New Minimally Invasive Hammertoe Surgery

Hammertoe surgery is generally indicated when a patient has regular pain and discomfort on a regular basis, and/or when the affected toe has become rigid and no longer responds to any kind of straightening or realigning procedures. When other forms of hammertoe correction have been exhausted, surgery may then be recommend to correct the situation and restore functionality to the affected toe.

When surgery is deemed necessary, the objective is to reduce pain, improve toe alignment, and to eliminate any prominence generally associated with the condition, and to straighten out the toe that has become curled up into a rigid or semi-rigid position.

What is TenoTac®?

One of the reasons your toe is straight is because there is a balance between the muscles and tendons that run along the top and bottom of your toe. Hammertoes occur when there is an imbalance.

The TenoTac® System restores the anatomy of the toe. The device rebalances the tendons at the bottom of the toe that have become stiff and contracted due to the overpowering soft tissues along the top of the toe.

A surgeon using our TenoTac® System manually straightens the toe, and the tendons along the bottom of the toe are stabilized and tacked in place, rebalancing the toe. The system requires a small incision on the bottom of the toe and a small incision on top of the toe to facilitate placement of the implant with no bony cuts made during the TenoTac® procedure.

With the TenoTac® procedure, patients may experience less postoperative swelling, pain, and scarring when compared to traditional flexor tendon transfer and fusion procedures.
