Treatment Options For Your Hammertoe

 Non-Surgical Treatment Options

Hammertoe is a common foot deformity where one or more toes appears bent or contracted out of their normal position. In the early stages of hammertoe, there are other hammertoe treatments that your physician may recommend to see if a measure of relief can be obtained.5

  • Wide Roomy Shoes - Comfortable, with adequate arch support, reducing crowding the toes together in the shoe box.

  • Hammertoe Pads/Cushions - Can be purchased over the counter and can attempt to decrease discomfort or pain.

  • Hammertoe Splint - Designed to realign the toe that has curled up into an unnatural position

  • Physical Therapy - Stretching and strengthing excersizes to address muscle imbalance.

  • Medications - Anti-inflammatory drugs may be recommended to reduce pain.

Has your surgeon recommended hammertoe surgery?

While conservative, non-operative treatments may relieve pain and slow progression of the deformity, painful hammertoes will require surgery if conservative treatments fail.1 When considering surgery, most patients are concerned with the following:

  • How long will I be in pain?

  • How long before I return to normal activity?

  • Will I have a big scar?

  • Will my toe look normal again?

Treatment has evolved. Now your hammertoes can be addressed through a minimal incision without requiring bony cuts while rebalancing the toe. This innovative technique can be done without being admitted to a hospital. The procedure will address the source of the hammertoe, designed to leave you with a straighter toe, a smaller scar, and light mobility of the toe following procedure.

Addressing the deformity in early stages may eliminate the need for fusion and/or other more invasive procedures in the future.2

What is a Fusion Procedure?

Fusion procedures are frequently completed to straighten the toe. These procedures require bony cuts and a typically a lengthier incision than the TenoTac system. This can result in post-operative swelling and pain lasting for weeks to months.2 By fusing the joints, the toe is straightened, but the patient’s mobility of the fused toe is limited.

Get Back on Your Feet.

The TenoTac® System restores the anatomy of the toe. The device rebalances the tendons at the bottom of the toe that have become stiff and contracted due to the overpowering soft tissues along the top of the toe.
